  Crafting / Basic Information

A Copper Golem can be created using a Copper Block (Waxed Copper Block) and a Carved Pumpkin (Jack o’Lantern). The oxidation level of the Copper Golem follows the oxidation level of the Copper Block used. As long as the pumpkin is placed last, the golem will spawn regardless of direction—up, down, left, or right.

The Copper Golem has 12 health (6 hearts). It cannot be bred, and when killed, it drops 1–3 copper ingots.

When a Copper Golem is created, both the Copper Golem and a Copper Chest are generated. Like copper blocks, the Copper Golem also oxidises over time. The oxidation level does not affect its performance, but once it reaches the final oxidation stage, there is a 0.58% chance per tick (0.05 seconds) that it will turn into a Copper Golem Statue, causing it to stop functioning. It can be restored using an axe.

Oxidation progresses by one stage approximately every 2 hours and 20 minutes, and after about 7 hours in total, the Copper Golem becomes fully oxidised.

  Removing Oxidation / Waxing

Both the Copper Golem and the Copper Chest can have oxidation removed using an axe or be waxed using honeycombs.

When you apply wax, orange particles appear, and oxidation will no longer progress. This also allows you to complete the “Wax On” advancement. One thing to keep in mind is that the Copper Golem and the Copper Chest are treated separately, so you must wax both individually. If you want to remove the wax later, you can do so with an axe, which produces light purple particles.

Next, oxidation can be removed using an axe, with each click reverting the Copper Golem one oxidation stage at a time. Even a Copper Golem Statue that has stopped functioning can be restored by removing oxidation all the way back to the initial stage and then right-clicking once more, after which it will begin operating again.

When oxidation is removed, green particles appear, and oxidation can also be removed by lightning strikes.

Chest Sorting Range / Sorting Algorithm

Chest Sorting Range

The Copper Golem’s chest detection range extends 32 blocks horizontally (33 blocks including the chest) and 8 blocks vertically (9 blocks including the chest) from the location where it was created. The total detection area is 65 × 65 × 17 blocks.

Sorting Algorithm

The Copper Golem can check chests up to two blocks in height. It will only place items into a chest if the chest is empty or already contains the same item. If a player is currently using a chest, the Copper Golem will not interact with it.

Additionally, the Copper Golem can carry up to 16 items at a time. It can remember up to 10 Copper Chests it has taken items from and 10 chests it has recently attempted to search.

Supported Chest Types

Lastly, the Copper Golem can interact with two types of chests: normal chests and trapped chests. It cannot use Ender Chests, Shulker Boxes, or Barrels. Using trapped chests to build redstone circuits is also one possible approach.

  Easter Egg

The Copper Golem has an Easter egg involving the Iron Golem. When an Iron Golem and a Copper Golem are in the same area, there is a very small chance during the daytime that the Iron Golem will offer a poppy to the Copper Golem. When this happens, the Copper Golem will place the flower on its head.
